Sarah Wilson - Careers Co-ordinator
I work with a great team of people organising everything from events with business volunteers in school, visits to colleges, universities and workplaces to live lessons teaching skills in CV writing, employability and recognising your qualities and skills.
We have recently written and rolled out a six-week programme in PSHCE, introducing our students to Unifrog so that they have even more resources and information at their fingertips! It is finishing with our first ever Virtual Careers Fair - I hope you enjoy it!
I love the interaction that I have with students in school and continue to have an open-door policy so that students can access the team at any time.
Amanda Mettrick - Work Experience Co-ordinator
My main role involves giving information about various work experience options and helping and encouraging students to find a suitable placement. Sometimes this can be a lengthy process because what a student has in mind is not always available but by working together, we find an appropriate placement. My aim is to make the week of work experience enjoyable and worthwhile and to give students a good experience and understanding of a working week. The rest of my role is very varied. I allocate all our student appointments for Liz Palmer, our Careers Adviser. This gives them the opportunity to have an in-depth chat about their future education and career options. We have a wide range of reading material in our Careers library for students to borrow which I keep well stocked and up to date. Twitter has become a great platform for alerting students to college/university open days, work experience/apprenticeships and other useful information.
I also choose a ‘Career of the Week’ to tweet about and put posters around school which includes qualifications and salaries. These make an interesting read and can help to decide a pathway.
Holly Mclean - Careers Lead
It's an absolute joy to work with the Careers Team at Beckfoot. They are a fantastic team of people who work relentlessly all year round to support our students. They offer impartial careers information, advice and guidance to students and encourage students to consider their own future careers. The team delivers a wide variety of careers related events and encounters over the year.
My favourite is interview practice but we are always on the lookout for new and exciting events and activities which help our students. So far this year we have delivered targeted sessions from Medical Mavericks focusing on NHS and STEM careers, ran small group Aim Higher events and small workshops on employability skills. We have also launched Unifrog as part of the PSHCE programme, I've loved seeing the wide variety of personalities we have across school. My role is to have the overview of the careers programme and to lead the team here at Beckfoot. Enjoy the website, it is full of quality advice, information and guidance and I hope you find this useful.
