Your child's learning: Religious Education
As part of the new Year 9 curriculum, we will be taking the opportunity to explore ethical debates and dilemmas. As part of this, we will be studying two units that we would like parents and carers to be aware of. From November to December, we will study a unit called ‘Ethical Enquiry’, composed of topics including Relationships, Contraception and Consent, Abortion, Euthanasia, Environment and Organ Donation.
In January and February, we will study a unit named ‘The Extreme World.’ This unit covers important issues including Extremism, Radicalisation and forms of violence, such as Child Sexual Exploitation, FGM and Honour based violence. We will explore religious beliefs, secular world views and contemporary British attitudes towards these topics.
This also links to the broader Relationships Education, Relationships and Sex Education (RSE):
If you would like to discuss your child’s learning journey in RE further, please contact Jennie Towler (Head of Religious Education) or Thomas Darling (Assistant Headteacher).
