Beckfoot Trust is an organisation that links a group of local Bradford schools together so that they can collectively improve the life chances for young people within their schools. Our aim is to create a group of truly remarkable schools each with a genuine comprehensive intake. They will be wonderful places for young people to learn and grow up in. Year 11 Update

Dear Families,

Overview of support for Year 11 students

We wanted to take this opportunity to update you regarding the support in place for your child in this pivotal year.

*New for 2023-2024*: Year 11 Supervision, 3pm – 4pm, AP4 and M14

In order to support students with their independent learning, we are introducing Supervision for Year 11.

At present, when students do not complete homework, they receive a ‘negative’ on Class Charts. Two no homework negatives on Class Charts in a week results in students receiving a detention. Moving forward, teachers can choose to book a student in for one of these Supervision sessions instead. Supervision can also be set by teachers where they feel students would benefit from completing other work, such as missed classwork, homework or activities that will support students in their next steps in learning. Supervision will be overseen by members of the Senior Leadership Team.

Where a student is booked into Supervision, students and parents/carers will receive a notification via Class Charts. Should a student not attend Supervision, they will be booked into a Leadership Team detention.

Period 6 consolidation and revision sessions: 3pm – 4pm, venues on the timetable below

A range of subjects are offering Period 6 sessions to support students. The venues are detailed on the timetable attached. Paper copies of students’ individual Period 6 timetables are being distributed in school. All students are welcome to attend. For invited students, attendance is part of the school day and as such, failure to attend will result in a detention.

Core Masterclasses: 3pm – 4pm, venues announced at the time

At key points in the calendar, English and Maths teachers will be running Masterclasses after school. These are similar to a Period 6 session but do not run every week. Any student is welcome to attend. For students invited via Class Charts, attendance is part of the school day and as such, failure to attend will result in a detention.

Study Support: Monday and Thursday, 3pm – 4pm, M12

Mrs Powell (Head of Year) and Mr Wheeler (Pastoral Manager) also oversee sessions twice a week where students can attend in order to have somewhere quiet to complete homework, revise and complete other independent learning activities with support from their year team.

We hope that this information is useful to you.

Thank you, as always, for your support.

Yours faithfully,

Simon Wade, Headteacher
