Beckfoot Trust is an organisation that links a group of local Bradford schools together so that they can collectively improve the life chances for young people within their schools. Our aim is to create a group of truly remarkable schools each with a genuine comprehensive intake. They will be wonderful places for young people to learn and grow up in. We want to make a difference. We want to create something special.

Year 11 Sex Education

24 June 2021

Dear Parent/Carer,

Year 11 Relationship and Sex Education sessions

As part of our PSHE curriculum, Year 11 pupils will be participating in two sessions on the theme of relationships and sex education. These will take place on Monday 5 July in lesson time. These sessions have be planned to enable us to meet the National RSE (Relationship and Sex Education) guidance as set out by the Department for Education (link).

These sessions will be delivered by a team of trained professionals from the local education provider HALE (Health Action Local Engagement), a link to their website can be found here (link).

The sessions will cover the following topics:

  • Lesson one: Sexual Health
  • Lesson two: Contraception

Parents have the right to withdraw their children from the sex education components of RSE. That means the lessons that cover physical aspects of sexual development and intimate relationships, and sexual health. Requests for withdrawal should be put in writing and addressed to the Head of Year by completing the form on this document (link). A copy of withdrawal requests will be placed in the pupil’s file. The Head of Year will discuss any such request with parents and take appropriate action. Alternative work will be given to pupils who are withdrawn from sex education.

Please do not hesitate to contact the year team should you have any questions.

Yours faithfully,

Thomas Darling
Assistant Headteacher - Personal Development Lead
