Beckfoot Trust is an organisation that links a group of local Bradford schools together so that they can collectively improve the life chances for young people within their schools. Our aim is to create a group of truly remarkable schools each with a genuine comprehensive intake. They will be wonderful places for young people to learn and grow up in. We want to make a difference. We want to create something special.

Year 10 Curriculum Day: Humanities

Wednesday 27th November 2024

The Humanities Team have invited a range of external speakers from numerous organisations to come in and share their wealth of knowledge with you on the 27th November. You will be off timetable throughout the day and will visit various sessions. These interactive sessions will give you the opportunity to see how our Humanities subjects link with the outside world through exploring current issues and the world of work. Some of these sessions will also strengthen your team building and resilience skills.

The shape of the day is as follows:

Period 1 Period 2

NCS (National Citizen Service) a team building quiz session.

Place2Be (wellbeing service) a session on resilience

Preparation session to prepare for p3 and p4.

Period 4

You need to choose one of the following sessions:

  1. The Holocaust Education Trust: Learn more about one of History's most significant events, the Holocaust, by hearing a first-hand account from a survivor. 

  2. The British Red Cross: A session based on empathy regarding the migration of refugees. The students will hear real-life stories and will show an understanding regarding the decisions made by others. 

  3. The Linking Network - Intergeneration Thinking: Students will become dementia awareness ambassadors. Certificates will be awarded to all students on completion of the session. This option must be selected by Health and Social Care students to support their coursework.

  4. The Humanist Society: Explore what the non-religious worldview of Humanism is, the impact it has on life and Humanist perspectives on current global issues.

  5. Amnesty International: Explore Amnesty International, the global social movement, that is committed to creating a future where everyone can enjoy human rights, united by our shared humanity and working towards creating a positive change in the world.

  6. Skipton Building Society: An introduction to practical finance for students to learn the basics about their first payslip.

Session on motivation and resilience in the hall with The Legal Lynk (a social enterprise encouraging inclusion in the legal sector) and Mr Wade.

Legal Lynk have offered the opportunity to come and do work experience with one of their legal partners within the local area. During the Legal Lynk session the speaker will take questions around the legal system and working within it as well as diversity in the workplace. Those that ask questions that suitably impress may be offered a work experience placement.
