STEM Roadshow presentation: Monday 17 January 2022
I am writing to let you know that on Monday 17 January 2022, during period 5, we have organised a STEM Roadshow presentation for all Year 7 students. The roadshow is led by a theatre company who provide an interactive experience for students aged 10-13 years old in Primary and Secondary schools, which is designed to inspire excitement in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) subjects. The programme provides an interactive experience for students and delivers, fun engaging activities that demonstrate how STEM underpins everything that we do.
In the interests of openness and transparency, we must also let you know that the roadshow is supported by BAE Systems plc (BAE) which is a British multinational aerospace, security, and arms company based in London. BAE offer the school roadshows supported by the Royal Navy and the Royal Air Force to over 400 schools across the UK every year.
The 2022 schools STEM roadshow is a 50-minute interactive presentation that will take place in the Beckfoot School Hall. The theme of this year is magnetism. The road show will demonstrate 5 different magic tricks that all use magnets. Students will build and race their own homopolar electric motors and suspend one of our actors in the air - held up only by a small electromagnet.
Whilst the roadshow is a very exciting and interactive experience, it is not mandatory, and parent/carers can choose for their child not to attend should they so wish.
