Beckfoot Trust is an organisation that links a group of local Bradford schools together so that they can collectively improve the life chances for young people within their schools. Our aim is to create a group of truly remarkable schools each with a genuine comprehensive intake. They will be wonderful places for young people to learn and grow up in. Sport FAQs

1. Is the course the same as an A Level?

The course is a vocational course which means, alongside externally examined content, there is also internally assessed coursework that includes both written work and practical assessment, e.g., practical sports performance, performing in interviews and teaching sessions. It is equivalent to 1 A Level but graded differently (Distinction*, Distinction, Merit, Pass)

2. Do all universities accept BTECs?

Most universities accept BTECs, however a minority of universities may not, or they may alter the UCAS point allocations for BTEC grades or have other conditions (e.g., physiotherapy courses may require a certain % of the L3 course studied to contain Biology). It is encouraged that you check this on UCAS if you have a specific course in mind before applying for sixth form.

3. Do we do a lot of practical in lessons?

No. The majority of content is theory and written work. For the practical unit we may do a block of practical lessons, but it is encouraged that students obtain practical performance footage outside of lesson time.

4. What standard do I have to be within my sport and how many sports will I get assessed in?

You will be assessed in both a team sport (e.g., football, netball, rounders etc) and an individual sport (e.g., athletics, diving, badminton etc). For the highest grades you must demonstrate effective performance in a full sided competition (e.g., 11 a-side football or full court badminton).

Due to the range of sports individuals perform in, it will be vital that you are able to obtain video footage of you performing in full sided competitions, outside of lessons. Therefore, you need to be competing for a club or attend extracurricular school clubs consistently.

5. Do I have to have studied PE at level 2?

Not necessarily. Some of the content will build on that studied at level 2 but this will not be assumed in the teaching of level 3 content. Some content is brand new and will not follow on.
