Beckfoot Trust is an organisation that links a group of local Bradford schools together so that they can collectively improve the life chances for young people within their schools. Our aim is to create a group of truly remarkable schools each with a genuine comprehensive intake. They will be wonderful places for young people to learn and grow up in. We want to make a difference. We want to create something special.

The intent of History at Beckfoot is to provide students with understanding of the world and their place in it, with a firm grasp of how events in the past have shaped modern societies. We will also instil empathy, an appreciation of diversity and how our values today reflect the past. A Beckfoot historian will show a love of the past and be passionate about debating historical concepts.

History FAQs

There are two 2-hour 30 minute exams at the end of Year 13. These are each worth 40% of your final grade.

2. Is there any coursework?

Yes – it is an essay that combines all the skills used in the exams. It is worth 20% of your final grade.

3. What is the coursework about?

We currently offer 5 different topics for you to choose from: the Crusades, the Early Modern Witchcraze, the fight for women’s equality in Britain in the 19th-20th Centuries, the Black Liberation Struggle in America in the 19th-20th Centuries and the long-term causes of the Holocaust.

4. Why do you need to have History GCSE and good English grades?

History is an essay-based exam so you will need to be able to write fluently. There is also a lot of reading involved in both the lessons and the exam itself.

5. What's the jump from GCSE to A Level like?

The skills being used in GCSE are the same skills that you will be assessed on at A Level. This helps with the jump between GCSE and A Level.

6. What can I do with an A-Level in History?

History equips you with many skills that are attractive to employers. History is actually very practical, because it involves: Learning about people and how they interact, learning about countries, societies and cultures, Learning to locate and sift facts, presenting what you've learned in a way that makes sense to others. So, History can prepare you for jobs that involve History, like archive or museum work, but it can also prepare you for jobs outside the sphere of History like journalism, marketing and law.
