School Update: weather conditions

Dear Parents/Carers and Students

I wanted to thank you for your immense support today. Delaying the start to the school day is very unusual for us but a decision I hope you agree was made in the best interests of our students and staff.

Attendance today has been phenomenal. It was so great to see our students once again and welcome them back to school for the start of 2025. I especially loved the reactions from many of them to seeing their friends after the Christmas break.

We will open as normal for the remainder of the week returning to our usual start time of 8.30am. We have been told that buses will be running and that the council will continue to grit main routes. Our site team have been wonderful and they too will continue to prepare the site each evening and morning so that we can continue to operate as close to normal as possible.

We want to support our students in all ways possible this week given that the temperatures forecast are very low. In order to do so we will continue to adopt a different approach to our uniform policy, specifically footwear, in the interests of safety. Therefore, for the remainder of this week, students will be allowed to wear walking boots/shoes, school shoes or trainers. It is my view that the temperatures that are expected overnight will mean that footpaths are unlikely to clear anytime soon. Please though ensure that students are not wearing trainer socks! Additionally, if you can ask your children to wear a coat that would be great although I know from experience that is not always easy! The remainder of our uniform expectations will remain in place and we aim to return to full expectations on Monday 13January 2025.

Thank you for your continued patience and support. I have been genuinely humbled this week and incredibly grateful.

Take care.

Mr Wade, Headteacher
