Footlight Theatre at York Theatre Royal

On Wednesday 6 April our in-school Theatre Company, Footlight Theatre, performed the play 'Like There's No Tomorrow' at the York Theatre Royal Studio Theatre. This was part of the Connections Festival with the National Theatre. The cast and crew worked extremely hard to prepare for the production and had an exciting day of director workshops and technical rehearsals, before performing live to the theatre audience.

Blurb of the play:

There are strange cracks appearing in the land on the other side of the world, turning habitats into wastelands and creating a new wave of climate refugees. But no one’s worrying about that here – where a mayoral candidate is promising more, more, more. It’s what the people want. Apart from Maru that is, who can’t breathe.

"Last night I had the absolute pleasure of watching a group of our students in their National Theatre Connections performance at the Theatre Royal in York.

Following a competitive bid to be part of this project, a group of our students were given the opportunity to work with a professional playwright and perform a new one-hour play that the playwright had written especially for this project. For anyone who has ever had to memorise a speech, lead an assembly, or similar, I think we can all agree that this is no mean feat!

What blew me away was the focus, determination, professionalism, teamwork and all round 'Beckfooter' magic that was our students - both on stage and backstage afterwards. Many of the students involved have never performed before and the memories and experiences this kind of project provides is just phenomenal."
