Bingley Station BSL Fingerspelling Project
Last year, 11 students from Art Club were invited by Bingley Action Stations group to take part in an exciting community project raising awareness of communication issues, particularly amongst deaf sign language users. Using the BSL (British Sign Language) fingerspelling alphabet as a starting point students looked at the work of artist Nikki Farquharson to design their own individual letters using colourful geometric patterns, henna designs, even Pikachu made an appearance! The completed alphabet is now displayed in Bingley station waiting room along with some fingerspelling challenge boards, so next time you are waiting for a train give fingerspelling a go!
Many thanks to all the Art Club students for their hard work, to Joy Smith from Bingley Action Station group for working with us and to Community Rail Network for funding the project.
