Key Stage 3 curriculum model update

I am writing to let you know about a change to our Key Stage 3 curriculum model that will take effect from 15 June 2026.

As part of our ongoing review of curriculum provision, we are reducing the number of teaching groups (sets) in Key Stage 3 from ten per year group to nine. As a result, some students will move into different teaching groups, and some may be taught alongside students from a different year half as they progress into Year 8 or Year 9.

These changes will not affect students’ tutor groups, which will remain the same. Similarly, students studying a language will continue to study their current language.

There may be other changes that are bespoke to certain students, but if this applies to your child, then you will be contacted about this separately.

We appreciate that students can sometimes feel uncertain about changes to their classes. However, movement between teaching groups is a normal part of school life and forms part of our regular review process to ensure that teaching groups remain balanced and that students are appropriately supported and challenged in their learning.

Regardless of the teaching group they are placed in, all students will continue to access the same ambitious curriculum, high-quality teaching and opportunities for success. Our staff know their students well and will continue to monitor progress carefully to ensure that every child receives the support and challenge they need to achieve their full potential.

Thank you for your continued support.
