Exam season is here and our students are shining.

Welcome to the summer term and thank you for all your messages of support for our Year 11 and Year 13 students as they embark on the challenges of GCSE and A Level exams over the next few weeks. They are amazing young people, and they are ready for what lies ahead.

I remember speaking to our students in September and saying to them how important the year ahead is and also how quickly it would fly by. That seems like two minutes ago and suddenly here we are at the outset of GCSE and A Level exams. This week marks an important milestone as our students began their GCSE examinations with Modern Foreign Languages speaking exams in French and German and our Photography students completed their controlled assessment. It is a time that carries real significance—not just in terms of outcomes, but because it matters deeply to each and every one of them.

Over the past months, I have seen the quiet determination, the extra effort, and the resilience our students have shown in preparing for this moment. These exams represent more than grades; they reflect commitment, perseverance, and the courage to step into a challenge. For our young people, this is a time filled with a mixture of hope, nerves, and ambition – and that matters.

As a school, we are incredibly proud of how our students have approached this period. They have supported one another, stayed focused, and shown maturity in the way they are managing both their studies and their wellbeing. Our staff have been alongside them every step of the way, offering guidance, encouragement and reassurance.

To our students: remember that you are more than any single exam result. Do your best, take each day as it comes, and know that we are all behind you.

To our families: thank you for the care, encouragement, and stability you provide at home. Your support makes a real difference, especially at times like this.

We wish all of our students the very best in the weeks ahead. Whatever the outcomes, we already know how much effort has gone into reaching this point and that is something to be proud of.

Speakers for Schools

Last week, five of our Year 10 students, alongside Mrs Grunwell, led assemblies for all year groups with a focus on public speaking. They shared powerful insights, including compelling facts and figures about the importance of communicating effectively, speaking with confidence, and stepping beyond your comfort zone.

Each student delivered a speech on a topic that genuinely interested them and mattered deeply. What stood out was not only the quality of what they said, but how they said it; their poise, presence, and courage to stand in front of their peers and speak with such authenticity.

They were truly incredible. I found myself in awe of their confidence, the way they carried themselves, and the bravery they showed. It was, without doubt, one of the most magical assemblies I have experienced during my time at Beckfoot, and I could not have been prouder of them.

Moments like these remind us of the power of student voice and the importance of giving young people the opportunity to be heard. A huge well done to Lily, Anya, Christie, Mikie and Alex.

Year 12 Visit to the University and Apprenticeship Fair

Yesterday, our Year 12 students visited the University and Apprenticeship Fair at Elland Road; an invaluable experience and a perfect opportunity for them to begin shaping their next steps beyond school.

The event brought together a wide range of universities, including Russell Group, red brick, specialist, and modern institutions. Alongside this, students had the chance to speak directly with some of the UK’s leading apprenticeship providers, higher education colleges, and student-focused organisations. It was a fantastic way for them to explore the breadth of opportunities available and to start considering which pathways might be right for them.

What made the event particularly powerful was its emphasis on exploration. Every student is different, with their own ambitions and strengths, and the fair reflected this by offering a diverse range of options to suit all interests and abilities. Whether students are aiming for highly academic routes or considering alternative pathways such as apprenticeships, there was something to inspire and inform everyone.

Students also benefited from a high level of support throughout the day. With access to seminars, informative resources, and meaningful conversations with exhibitors, they were able to gather valuable guidance to help them make informed decisions about their futures.

Experiences like this are so important in helping our young people feel confident, informed, and excited about the opportunities ahead.

Beckfoot Sixth Form Students Impress at PFA Headquarters

Just before the Easter break, 21 of our Beckfoot Sixth Form students returned to the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) headquarters in Manchester to present programme ideas they had developed following their first visit earlier this term.

They were set the challenge of designing a realistic programme that the PFA and the Eze Foundation could deliver; one that would support young people and professional footballers to develop employability skills, understand career pathways within football, and feel confident about life beyond playing.

Our students rose to this challenge with creativity, thoughtfulness, and professionalism. They presented their ideas to an expert judging panel, including Ikechi Eze (Founder of the Eze Foundation), Danielle Carter (former Lioness and Arsenal player), and Stephen Raynor (PFA Community Liaison Executive). The panel spoke highly of the students’ confidence, innovation, and the quality of their work.

A special mention must go to Will and Laila, who were recognised for their exceptional presentation skills. Congratulations also to Yusuf, Samiullah, Ubaydah and Syed, whose programme concept impressed the judges and earned them first place, along with some incredible prizes.

In addition to presenting, students took part in professional workshops on CV writing, project management, and event management. They also had the opportunity to network with PFA staff, gaining valuable insight into careers within the sports industry.

In the lead-up to the event, each student was paired with a PFA mentor, receiving feedback and guidance through online meetings. It was particularly inspiring to see one of our Year 13 students encouraged to apply for a summer internship opportunity in London; evidence of the genuine opportunities that can grow from experiences like this.

This was a truly enriching experience, and our students represented Beckfoot with confidence, creativity, and professionalism throughout. We are incredibly grateful to the PFA and the Eze Foundation for providing such a meaningful opportunity, and we are, as always, extremely proud of our wonderful students.

 Rugby League success

We are delighted to share some fantastic news about Will in Year 12, who has recently made the step up from the academy at the Bradford Bulls to training with the senior squad.

This is a significant achievement and a testament to Will’s dedication, resilience, and commitment to his sport. Making the transition from academy level to training alongside senior players requires not only talent, but also determination, discipline, and the confidence to rise to new challenges.

Opportunities like this do not come easily, and Will should be incredibly proud of the progress he has made. It is also wonderful to see how he is balancing these commitments alongside his studies in Sixth Form.

We look forward to following his journey and wish him every success as he continues to develop. He is a fantastic example of what can be achieved through hard work and perseverance, and we are very proud of him.

A Remarkable Sporting Achievement

We are incredibly proud to share that Josh, in Year 10, has once again been invited to take part in the Junior London Marathon on Saturday morning as a para athlete. This is an outstanding achievement and a reflection of his continued dedication and success.

As part of this experience, British Athletics are hosting Josh tonight in the athletes’ hotel, recognising him as part of an inspiring group of young competitors. This is a wonderful opportunity and a testament to how far he has come.

It has already been an exceptional year for Josh. He is now a member of the British Para Triathlon Development Squad, and his determination, commitment, and ambition are clear for all to see. With his eyes firmly set on a future Olympic Games, Josh is a young athlete with both the talent and mindset to go far.

We are delighted to celebrate his achievements and will be cheering him on this weekend. He is a true inspiration to our school community, and we could not be prouder of everything he is accomplishing.

Take care.
