Look around our school, talk to staff and students and hear from the Headteacher, Mr Simon Wade. He will give presentations throughout the evening when the hall is full, starting from 5:30pm.
A Level Sociology
Sociology is the study of society. Using a range of theoretical
perspectives and with a focus on contemporary issues, sociology helps us
to make sense of the society in which we live. You will develop a number
of skills including; supporting arguments with relevant evidence, how to
investigate topics using a range of research methods and evaluation and
critical thinking.
Assessment is in the form of three written exams at the end of Year 13, each lasting
2 hours. We also continuously assess students across the two years including;
class tests, essays, research projects and presentations.

Entry Requirements
- Grade 5 in Geography, History, RE or Sociology
- Grade 5 in GCSE English
- Grade 4 in GCSE Maths

- Paper 1: Education with Theory and Methods

- Paper 3: Crime and Deviance and Theory and Methods
Careers
Sociology is a well-respected discipline with a long history. It is a rigorous academic subject that can equip you with an excellent set of skills for entry to many university
degrees including those related to social sciences, anthropology, and criminology. Sociology also opens doors to a range of careers such as social work, law, journalism, the caring professions, policing, the civil service, advertising, market research, teaching, management, and business.
Enrichment
Students are encouraged to conduct their own research projects and have the opportunity to attend visits including a Criminology Conference and exam skills workshops to support their studies.
