Open Evening - Thursday 17 September 2026
Look around our school, talk to staff and students and hear from the Headteacher, Mr Simon Wade. He will give presentations throughout the evening when the hall is full, starting from 5:30pm.
A Level Chemistry
Students will build upon the knowledge gained at GCSE to develop an advanced knowledge of the fundamental concepts of Chemistry, as well as extending their range of practical skills through context based learning.
Assessment is in the form of three written exams at the end of Year 13, each lasting 2 hours. In addition, A Level students will work towards a practical endorsement in Chemistry, which is internally assessed, and reported separately form the overall grade.

Entry Requirements
- Grade 6 in GCSE Chemistry and either Biology or Physics, or Grade 6-6 in Combined Science
- Grade 5 in GCSE Mathematics
- Grade 4 in GCSE English

- Inorganic Chemistry
- Organic Chemistry
Careers
Students may continue their studies at university or enter the job market. It is usually a requirement for Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary Science degrees.
Chemistry students are always sought after because of the demanding nature of the Chemistry A Level and the wealth of transferrable skills which the study
of Chemistry requires.
Enrichment
There will be various opportunities throughout your two years studying A Level Chemistry to enter national and international Chemistry competitions. There will also be visits from speakers who are members of the Royal Society of Chemistry.
