Look around our school, talk to staff and students and hear from the Headteacher, Mr Simon Wade. He will give presentations throughout the evening when the hall is full, starting from 5:30pm.
A Level Biology
Biology is a fantastic choice for students hoping to pursue a science related career and for those who are fascinated by the living world. Topics are wide-ranging to develop your understanding and appreciation of the diversity of living organisms, from simple viruses to more complex animals and plants.
Assessment is in the form of three written exams at the end of Year 13, each lasting 2 hours. A Level students will work towards an internally assessed practical endorsement in Biology.

Entry Requirements
- Grade 6 in GCSE Biology and either Chemistry or Physics
- Or Grade 6-6 in Combined Science
- Grade 5 in GCSE Mathematics and English Literature and/or Language
Units studied
- Biological molecules, cells and exchange
- Genetic information, variation and relationships between organisms
- Energy transfers in and between organisms
- Genetics, populations, evolution and ecosystems, gene expression
Careers
A Level Biology is a requirement for many science degree courses including Veterinary Medicine, Physiotherapy, Environmental Science, Conservation, Marine Biology, Sport Science, Forensic Science, Zoology and Pharmacy. It is also widely accepted as entry to non-science related degrees such as Economics, International Business Management and Law.
Enrichment
There will be various opportunities to enter national Biology competitions while you study this A Level.
You will also attend a field trip to a nearby coastal environment to develop your sampling techniques.
