Maths

To provide a high quality mathematics education and a passion for problem solving.

Maths at Beckfoot provides pupils with the skills and knowledge to:

  • understand the world
  • reason mathematically
  • use their skills to problem solve in the real world
  • gain an appreciation for the power of mathematics and its intricacies
  • develop a sense of enjoyment and curiosity about the subject
  • be fluent in key mathematical concepts

Using expert teachers as guides, our students are encouraged to develop a detailed knowledge of the overview of maths as well as focusing on key topics .

Enrichment

Our LRC features a carefully selected collection of mathematical books that inspire curiosity and encourage independent exploration. Students can attend the Axiom Maths group which provides a space for students to engage with challenging problems, puzzles, and real-world applications of maths in a supportive, collaborative environment. Activities such as the Chess Club and Cards Club foster strategic thinking, pattern recognition and probability skills. Students are frequently provided with opportunities to develop their cultural capacity by incorporating current affairs into our lessons. For example, business and financial statistics.

Assessment

Internal assessments will take place throughout each year to monitor student progress and further inform teaching and learning. All formal assessments will be marked using GCSE mark schemes, and all progress will be reported to parents and carers.

Careers

Maths will provide pupils with a variety of transferable skills that will prepare them for employment in a multitude of sectors. These include:
