Celebrating Innovation, Achievement and Looking Ahead

This week has been filled with remarkable achievements across our school, showcasing the talent, curiosity, and commitment of our students. I am delighted to share some of the highlights.

Year 9 Girls Win Net Zero Competition

A huge congratulations to our exceptional group of Year 9 girls, who have been crowned winners of this year’s Bradford Net Zero Competition. Their success reflects their scientific curiosity, teamwork, and passion for sustainability.

Day One: Exploring Future Solutions Students explored renewable futures through hands-on workshops, including:

  • Building wind turbines
  • Producing hydrogen in the STEM lab
  • Investigating sustainable technologies

Day Two: Presenting a ‘Net Zero Island’ The team presented their Net Zero Island vision to judges from Yorkshire Water, Northern Power, and Bradford Council. After weeks of Wednesday after-school preparation, they delivered a professional, articulate, and inspiring presentation. Judges praised:

  • Their passion and professionalism

We could not be prouder. Well done to them all.

Their maturity, compassion, and thoughtful arguments were outstanding. They spoke with confidence, listened respectfully, and handled a complex humanitarian topic with great sensitivity.

Trip to Manchester – Women’s Champions League

On Wednesday evening, over 50 staff and students travelled to the Progress with Unity stadium in Manchester to watch Manchester United vs Lyon in the Women’s Champions League.

Despite the 0–3 result, it was a fantastic evening. Staff and stewards commented on how wonderful our students were—polite, engaged, and a true credit to the school.

We are thrilled to offer these opportunities to experience elite sport, and we are incredibly grateful to Ms Holmes and all staff involved for making this memorable trip possible.

PE Wider Learning Day – Year 9

On Thursday, our Year 9 students took part in a fantastic PE Wider Learning Day, spending the day off timetable exploring sport in new and exciting ways.

They experienced a broad range of sessions, including:

  • Physiotherapy
  • Nutrition in sport
  • Sports development
  • Media in sport
  • Personal training
  • Practical, activity-based workshops

Students were enthusiastic, engaged, and a pleasure to work with throughout the day. A huge thank you to Mr Owan and the PE team for bringing such a special day to life.

Trampolining Success

We are proud to celebrate the achievements of Olivia N and Emily T, who represented the school at the Yorkshire Schools Trampoline Competition.

Emily competed in the Advanced category and Olivia in the Elite category, both as the youngest competitors in their sections.

They performed brilliantly, and Olivia has qualified for the National rounds after finishing 5th overall. Congratulations to both students for their exceptional performances.

Beckfoot Student Leadership Elections

Today marks the Beckfoot Student Leadership (BSL) elections. Following months of hustings and campaigning, our entire student body will cast their votes, experiencing the British Value of democracy first-hand.

Over 1,600 students will participate, gaining insight into what it feels like to vote and shape leadership at Beckfoot.

I am excited to see the results announced next week. To all candidates and campaigners, thank you for your hard work. I look forward to working with the new BSL team throughout 2025–26.

Looking Ahead: Upcoming Events & Celebrations

Year 7 Spelling Bee Competition: Today our linguists will compete in Modern Foreign Language spelling challenges against other schools, aiming to retain last year’s trophy.
