PE Kit Update – September 2025

Dear parents/carers,

We are writing to inform you of some important updates regarding the PE kit requirements, which will come into effect from September. These changes have been made to ensure the safety and comfort of all students during PE lessons.

Astroturf and rugby requirements

Following the installation of our new astroturf last Summer, students will now be required to wear AG (artificial ground) boots when using the astro for any activity. These boots will also be required for rugby when playing on the grass. Please note that AG boots must have non-metal studs, see image below for reference.

Changes to PE kit

We understand that purchasing new footwear may be an additional cost for families. To help reduce overall expenses, we will now be allowing students to wear (with small logos permissible but not large logos):

  • Any brand of plain navy leggings
  • Any brand of plain navy joggers
  • Any brand of plain navy shorts (not Lycra)

Beckfoot branded PE kit will still be available for purchase, and the other items of kit will remain the same (PE top, optional rugby top, optional hoodie, plain white socks, long blue socks).

Additional safety requirements
  • Shin pads must be worn for football in all year groups.
  • We also strongly recommend the following for safety:
    • Sport hijabs for PE (if not, no pins can be worn, and it must be tucked in at all times during the lesson. Students will not be able to participate in trampoline with a non-sporting hijab for health and safety reasons).
    • Sports glasses or contact lenses.
    • Mouth guards for rugby.
Jewellery and PE participation

For health and safety reasons, piercings are not permitted in PE lessons. All piercings must be removed before the lesson; tape will not be allowed as a substitute. If students are unable to remove their piercings, they will still take an active role in the lesson but will not be able to physically participate, and they will receive an ATL 3 each lesson it is not removed. PE Kit must still always be worn in lessons. If students wish to get a piercing that is line with the school uniform policy, this must be done in the 6 week holidays and not during the school term to allow time to heal.

Injuries and notes

If your child is injured and their participation in PE will be impacted, please let us know as soon as possible. This should preferably be emailed to their Head of Year and PE Teacher. We ask that you clearly state the injury, level of participation, and a date of return to sport. Students should still come prepared with their PE Kit even if they are unable to participate physically in the lesson.

Email addresses for PE staff can be found below. We appreciate your support in ensuring all students are properly equipped and safe during their PE lessons. If you have any questions or require further clarification, please do not hesitate to contact.

Best regards,

Suzanne Lancashire, Head of PE
