Year 6 to Year 7 Transition 2021
Welcome Evening – Monday 5 July 2021
Welcome Evening will take place online. Please join us at 6pm on our website www.beckfoot.org to hear from Simon Wade, Headteacher, and Alex Denham, Deputy Headteacher, or click here to view the presentation.
Transition Day - Wednesday 7 July 2021
We have consulted with all our feeder primary schools regarding our plans for Transition Day on 7 July 2021. Please check with your child’s primary school whether they have agreed for Year 6s to attend Beckfoot on this day in line with their Risk Assessment.
Thank you for your patience whilst we have been finalising plans for Transition Day. Your child’s day will include two engaging lessons, a tutor session, an assembly with the Headteacher, Simon Wade, a break and a lunchtime. Although the day will be a little different to our usual plans, we are determined to give your child an enjoyable and memorable experience before they begin their journey with us in September.
Please help us to ensure the day runs smoothly by reading the information below carefully and sharing its contents with your child. We recommend you talk this plan through a few times with them in the run up to 7 July to ensure they are comfortable and confident with the schedule.
Start of the day – from 8.45am
Please ensure your child arrives at the front field no earlier than 8.45am. This includes if they have older siblings who attend our school.
Please only use the one-way system in the bus bay area at the front of the school to drop off your child. Please do not drive down the driveway as this will be in use for Hazelbeck students only. Please do not leave your vehicle at any time.
If your child is walking into school, please tell them to go to the front field where a friendly face will greet them. Please do not accompany your child to the entrance of the school.
We understand that some parents/carers will want to accompany their children onto the school site but we need to do everything we can to keep you and your child safe; we are taking these measures to ensure adults are not congregating around the entrance and to keep footfall onsite to a minimum. Thank you for supporting us with this.
Your child will remain in their primary school bubble for the duration of their time with us unless we have made alternative arrangements with the primary school. Please check with your child’s primary school if you’re unsure.
Please note, some primary schools with smaller attendance numbers, will form a bubble for our Transition Day.
All staff and students follow a rigorous risk assessment to ensure we are all kept as safe as possible. Please take the time to read through our Transition Day Risk Assessment here. Please ensure your child has a comfortable face covering to wear for indoor communal areas.
If your child is isolating for any Covid-19 reasons, including school closures, having symptoms or anyone in their household having symptoms or awaiting Covid-19 tests, or if they or anyone in the household has tested positive, they would unfortunately, not be able to attend our Transition Day.
Please ensure your child has a stocked pencil case, a packed lunch and a drink for their day with us. All children will be expected to wear a face covering when entering or leaving the building, and when in communal areas, in line with our risk assessment.
Children who receive Free Schools Meals will be provided with a ‘grab-bag’ which includes a sandwich, a baked item, a piece of fruit and a carton of juice.
We’re providing a snack for every child at break time. If your child has any specific dietary requirements, please let us know via the survey at the end of this letter.
End of the day – from 1pm
The following primary schools have kindly agreed to collect their children and walk them back to their primary school: Beckfoot Priestthorpe Primary School & Nursery, Eldwick Primary School, Myrtle Park Primary School, and Trinity All Saints Primary School.
We will operate a staggered system for getting year 6 off site. Please note that, if you are picking up your child, you must arrive on site no earlier than your allocated time slot. If your child is walking home, please let us know as soon as possible via the survey at the end of this letter. Children with older siblings at the school must meet off-site.
Please only use the one-way system in the bus bay area at the front of the school to collect your child. Please do not park on the school site and please do not drive down the driveway as this will be in use for Hazelbeck students only. Please wear a face covering and follow the one-way system on foot. You will then collect your child and follow the one-way system off-site.
Please continue to check the Transition webpage for regular updates. We are grateful that so many of you have returned completed Yellow Admission form (available online here) as this enables us to keep you regularly updated. Please don’t forget to support your child in completing the This Is Me online form (available online here) so we can learn as much as possible about your child.
Confirm your child’s attendance
Finally, you must confirm your child’s attendance by completing the Transition Day form by Friday 2 July 2021 here. Once you have completed the form, we can let you know your allocated collection time slot.
Kind regards and take care,
Simon Wade, Headteacher
Alex Denham, Deputy Headteacher

our risk assessment and we are working closely with primary feeders to ensure Year 6 enjoy a safe and positive experience of Beckfoot School. We will be back in touch with further details about the day soon.
This information is vital in enabling us to keep you updated and prepare for the arrival of your child.
Kind regards and take care,
Simon Wade, Headteacher

A Warm Welcome to Beckfoot
We are thrilled that your child has secured a place at our school for September 2021! Our hope is that they will be very happy in our care over the next five to seven years because that is incredibly important to a young person’s success.
We are really proud of our relationships with our families and look forward to forging a strong partnership with you as your child progresses through Beckfoot.
Students sit at the heart of everything we do at Beckfoot; knowing your child, as both a person and a student, is extremely important to us. We are interested in learning about their well-being, their background, their talents, hopes, dreams, worries and fears. It is for these reasons that our transition process focuses on finding out as much as possible about each individual child. We ask that your child completes the This Is Me online form with your help. This form will help us get to know them a bit better as they begin a new chapter in their education. You can access the This Is Me online form here. To ensure your child has a smooth start with us, we kindly ask that you complete the yellow Admission Form and return it as soon as possible in the stamped address envelope provided.
Events not to be missed…
Welcome Evening Monday 5 July 6 – 7.15pm
Join us at our Welcome Evening to meet students and staff, and learn more about our school community. We hope you understand that our invitation extends to two adults only; this is to ensure your evening is comfortable and we can talk with every parent/carer and their child. Doors will open at 6.00pm.
Transition Day on Wednesday 7 July 9 – 2pm
We look forward to seeing your child again on our Transition Day. They will experience a day at Beckfoot, learn more about the school and hopefully get answers to all their questions. It is also an opportunity to begin building new friendships and get to know their Tutor which ensures a smooth start with us. Please ensure your child is at the red tarmac area by the South Entrance by 9.00am where staff will be excited to meet and greet them. They must wear their primary school uniform and will require a packed lunch for the day. They do not need a coat on in school. They will also have their photograph taken in readiness for their September start.
Your child will need to be collected in person at 2.00pm at the red tarmac area by the South Entrance. In order to ensure a smooth departure for our new students and their families, you may park in the bus bay, which is near the pick-up point but please ensure you collect your child in person. Our driveway is only available to families with a permit. If your child is walking home or using public transport, please inform us at Transition Evening at the sign-in desk.
Special Parent Forum on Thursday 22 July, 6.00pm – 7.00pm
