I have been a member of staff at Beckfoot for even longer than David Horn and it has been a joy to see our wonderful school grow and become what it is today.
When David asked me to work closely alongside him as Head of School, I was thrilled and honoured. Thrilled because I know that the school will continue to improve and I want to be at the centre of driving that. Honoured, because the values of our Beckfoot community are so strong and so student-centred.
Students are at the heart of all that we do and they continually make us proud of their aspirations and achievements. To see our students embrace challenge and become resilient and ambitious learners as they gain confidence in their own ability is truly amazing.
I was born in Bradford and returned here after university to teach in my home city. Contrary to some of the myths that are circulated, I believe that Bradford students can achieve, can succeed and can have access to amazing teaching which will inspire them to follow their future dreams, in whatever direction they take them. To be part of leading a genuinely comprehensive school, where students of all abilities and backgrounds can thrive, is the most rewarding job.
I think our students successfully achieving the World Class Schools Quality Mark for us in 2017 best demonstrates our ambition and our values. This is exciting because to achieve this quality mark was tough –and we are proud to be the first school in the North of England to receive the award. Our students demonstrated that as learners they are scientifically, mathematically and technologically literate, that they value learning in all its contexts, and that they are globally aware. World Class Students are ambitious for future learning and are prepared for life in an international environment. They are humble, demonstrate humanity and look to strengthen wider communities through understanding and collaborative work. That’s what all of us here at Beckfoot believe in and work towards every day.
Please don’t hesitate to contact me at any time if you want to know more about the school, or have anything you would like to discuss.
