Beckfoot School seeks to ensure that all its students receive an education which maximises opportunities for each pupil to reach their potential. A good education will help to give your child the best possible start in life and regular attendance is of vital importance. Poor school attendance damages educational achievement and the future progress of young people. Promoting and supporting good attendance at school is essential to learning and attainment.
All school staff will work with students and their families to support parents in helping them to meet their legal duty to ensure that their children attend school regularly and on time. A whole school attendance target of 97% has been set for the academic year 2018/2019 and various measures will be put in place to help work towards this.
The school has established an effective system of incentives and rewards, which acknowledge the efforts of students to improve their attendance and timekeeping and will challenge the behaviour of those students and parents who give low priority to attendance and punctuality.
The school expects all students to aim for 100% attendance. An attendance level of under 90% is classed as persistent absenteeism and could initiate intervention by the school. The case could be referred to the Local Authority’s Education Safeguarding Team (formerly the Education Social Work Service) which may lead to a Penalty Notice being issued or court proceedings.
We want every student to benefit from the learning opportunities offered at Beckfoot School. We want to work with you to enable them to accomplish this and offer families the support to avoid any unnecessary absences, which could lead to legal intervention.
