What a busy first 4 weeks of term! Our new Year 7 students have settled in so quickly and are already enjoying many extra-curricular opportunities. I was thrilled to see so many of them confidently showing visitors around school at our very busy Open Evening last week. The feedback from numerous visitors was all about how confident, skilled and amazingly proud (already!) the students were of their school.  Year 7 also had enjoyed a hectic and very windy team building day last week on the school field and were treated to a typical French breakfast. Thank you to all parents and carers who came along to see the photographs of the event and hear about the Children’s University initiative.

Alongside learning in lessons we have managed to fit in a visit from the poet, Harry Baker, who inspired both students and English staff alike. The English staff also took a group of students to London to see Othello at The Globe theatre.  The year 11 geographers went to Hornsea to get to grips with their Year 11 GCSE fieldwork and even managed to have some sunshine, which is most unusual for our geography field trips! A week long visit from students and staff at our partner school in Germany has kicked off this year’s ever popular exchange, with friendships being forged and students looking forward to the return visit in February. A massive thank you to families who hosted German students. Year 11 PE groups benefitted from the expertise of football referee Jez Simpson talking to our BTEC Sport students about responsibilities of the role. He had some great stories about some famous footballers, which kept the students totally engaged!

Year 11 had their first GCSE mock exam today and parents and carers will have received a letter from us as an invitation to come along on Thursday 11th when we will be launching our year 11 ‘Team around the Student’ support and success strategy.

The Performing Arts team are busy with final rehearsals for the school production, Footloose, which takes place Tuesday 16th to Thursday 18th of October in the school hall. One not to be missed!

We are working hard to improve our communication with you about the wealth of experiences and opportunities offered to our students.  Please keep exploring the website and following our various Twitter accounts, where you will find regular updates about all the things that are happening to keep Beckfoot ‘buzzing’.

As always, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me if I can help in any way.

Gill
