Sam’s Running Success

Year 8 student Sam Conroy has made an impressive start to the year with several running victories.

In January  Sam, won the Under-13 boys race in the Yorkshire Cross Country Championships at Lightwater Valley.  Sam, who runs in the Keighley & Craven schools league, completed the course in 8 mins 54 secs, helping his club to take the team title.

In February, Sam represented Bradford schools in the junior boys race (Years 8 and 9) at the Bradford Championships coming second and qualified to run in the English Schools Cross Country finals at Temple Newsam.

In March, he qualified to lead the Yorkshire team out at the Inter Counties Cross Country Race in Loughborough. 

After a successful cross country season, Sam became the Yorkshire Road Champion at The Brownlee Centre in Leeds winning the race by an amazing 17 seconds! He was then chosen to represent Yorkshire and Humberside for the London Mini Marathon last weekend. He travelled down to London with the team on Saturday. Runners from all counties stayed together at The Royal Holloway University. The teams ran the last 3 miles of the Marathon, taking in all the sights and finishing down the Mall. Sam was the first for Yorkshire and 18th overall running an amazing time of 17:07 for the 3 miles.
