£5,882 for Sport Relief!

As we approach the Easter holiday we have had a fantastic week in school. The campus total for Sport Relief stands at £5,882, with some money still to be collected. My thanks go to all of our students, parents and carers who have contributed to this amazing total, Katie Holmes and the PE team who have led and organised the Beckfoot events, and all of the students in PE who have run and walked their way through PE lessons (some limped by the end!) They have covered an estimated 6008 kms, more than a 1000 kms up on our previous record. Other events included the cheerleaders performing alongside our samba band.

Our newly elected student leaders visited the other Beckfoot Trust secondary schools to begin a series of collaborative working events. They returned from their day inspired by the prospect of working alongside their peers to further develop student leadership initiatives, which are so important in continuing to develop the culture of student ownership and participation in our communities. The Beckfoot Eco Group are extending their current work exploring how we can minimise the use of plastic in school (a student instigated initiative.) This includes looking at how we can continue the work on avoiding unnecessary packaging and litter, in and around school.

This week saw our Year 10 Maths challenge team placed second in the city wide Maths challenge, our Business students visited the Trinity Centre in Leeds to participate in a Business challenge, the Table Cricket team competed at Southfield Grange School and Year 12 Biology students were able to experience a university taster session. Post 16 Art and French students are currently in Paris, hopefully enjoying some decent spring weather as the Art students have the opportunity to explore the wonderful museums, and the linguists practice and extend their skills. More than 70 students completed a Duke of Edinburgh practice expedition on Saturday and my thanks to go all the staff who have supported them.

In addition to all of this, we continue to support our exam students. Year 11 students will receive their revision resource packs and timetables this week. There are various revision sessions running in the holidays and we invite all Year 11 parents and carers to a session in school on Thursday 19th April at 6pm, where we will be sharing information and offering advice in supporting students through the weeks ahead. As always, we will keep the website updated with details of the events.

It has been, despite the snow, a productive, exciting and inspiring term. Our students, as always, contributing magnificently to their learning and our community.

I wish you all a restful holiday.
