On Thursday 15th March, a group of very brave Year 10 students took part in the ‘Speak Out Challenge’, run by The Speakers Trust.
Over the course of the day, our students took part in a range of exciting activities to develop their public speaking skills. After speaking in smaller groups, our students ended the ‘Challenge’ by delivering a speech on a topic they felt passionate about. From gender inequality to the importance of recycling, every single speech was delivered with such enthusiasm. Miss Ashton, Mrs Dobson and Mrs Grey were so proud of all our speakers, especially those who found public speaking daunting.
Although it was very difficult decision, Verity Verhoven, Dylan Skwarek, Anna Chorlton, David Hollis, Benji Charlton Martin and Louisa Scott were selected as our winners. Over the next few weeks, these students will deliver their speeches in school assemblies, where we will select our overall finalist. This lucky student will then represent Beckfoot School in the ‘Speak Out Challenge’ regional final this summer!
Our students left the day with the following reflections:
This training is extremely fun and I’ve learnt skills that are extremely useful.
The training has improved my confidence massively.
I really enjoyed today, thank you. I have gained more confidence.
