Two and a half weeks into our new school term and our school community is already ‘buzzing’! On Wednesday we held a very busy and amazingly positive Open Evening, with more than 150 students volunteering to come along and help showcase their school to literally hundreds of prospective new students and parents. Many of our new year 7s proudly showed visitors around school and demonstrated how well they have settled in as ‘Beckfooters’ (and that they already know their way around the building!) Students from all year groups shared examples of their school work, their sporting and creative talents, and our Borneo 2018 expedition group took the opportunity to talk about their plans for next summer as they held a fundraising event through providing refreshments. The ‘Buzz’ team spent the evening making a record of events, which will feature in the next edition of the magazine. It was also fabulous to see members of our parents’ forum group at the evening, explaining how the group works and how we welcome parents to get involved and engage in discussions about all aspects of our school life.
All of the year 11 GCSE Geography students have had a day in Hornsea completing GCSE fieldwork, the Post 16 Biology students spent a very wet day at Boggle Hole, and last weekend our Duke of Edinburgh ‘Silver Award’ group went on a practice expedition. On Wednesday this week the whole of year 7 will have a team building day, experiencing a range of activities which encourage them to work collaboratively and solve problems by talking to each other and trusting their team members. This all takes place on our sports areas outside, so we are hoping for fine weather!
After a week of assemblies explaining the work of charities which focus on finding solutions to help genetic illnesses, our students happily joined in our ‘Jeans for Genes’ day on Friday, wearing their jeans, baking and buying cupcakes and cookies, and watching a rather one-sided staff ‘gladiator’ event, with Miss Duffy beating Mr Cooley! At the last count, Beckfoot and Hazelbeck had raised an amazing £1691.
What a wonderful start to the term.
Thank you to everyone involved.
