New beginnings and celebrating talent & success

We have had another busy week! It was just fantastic to see all of our new year 7s in school last Wednesday for their Transition Day. There were a few nervous young people (and parents!) around at 9 o’clock, but there were plenty of smiles by the time the students went home, with many telling me ‘I can’t wait to tell everyone about the great day I have had’. We are so looking forward to our new year 7s joining us full time in September and hope they will enjoy looking at the videos on the website, which have been recorded by current students to tell our new year groups a little more about becoming a ‘Beckfooter’.

Our annual Art Exhibition last week showcased stunning examples of students’ work from all key stages. It was also fantastic to see students’ Design work being exhibited alongside the Fine Art and Graphics. Certificates were awarded to some exceptional pieces of work, and a list of winners are listed below.

Yet more talent has been celebrated by our Performing Arts Faculty over the last two weeks, with a Drama and Dance night, GCSE Drama productions, the Summer Serenade concert and a range of exciting SPA opportunities to allow students to participate as experts, or novices. The Samba Band were as brilliant as ever, but I’m sure they haven’t previously performed with staff and students samba dancing in time to the drumming! It was a sight to behold. A Hip Hop session and an ‘open mike’ event also took place, with tap-dancing on the calendar for this week.

Last Thursday evening the PE faculty hosted their annual Sports Awards. Attended by many students and proud parents, it was a genuine celebration of sporting achievement, both within school, but also recognising participation outside of school. The depth of talent was inspiring, the many achievements truly world class and there is no doubt that we will be hearing more about future successes for some of our students.  Keep an eye out for the names of our winners listed below.

As our new year 7s experienced their ‘new beginning’, our Post 16 Prom marked the end of a seven-year Beckfoot journey and the start of something new for Year 13s. We wish the students all the best for the future and look forward to great exam results.
