Last week, the Beckfoot Geography department hosted Google Expeditions.
The Google team brought their technology to allow students to go on Google Expeditions, virtual reality field trips.
The students were able to explore the plants and animals in the Borneo rainforest and see areas where deforestation has occurred. They visited the base camp at Mount Everest and explored the glacial landscapes identifying Arêtes and pyramidal peaks! They went to visit Nepal to witness the effects of the Nepal 2015 earthquake and understand how people are re-building their lives. The students also visited inside the structure of the Earth and were able to see why earthquakes and volcanoes occur.
While nothing replaces hopping on the bus for a Geography field trip, all the students had a great time using virtual reality technology to explore the world.
