Hi everyone,

The 2019-20 academic year draws to a close today. It’s been a very odd time for everyone.

I want to begin by thanking our students who have shown real resilience, grit and determination throughout. They have been challenged with new ways of working and I am in awe at how well they have managed.

Our look-after provision for students of key workers also ends today and it has been a privilege to have those students in school over the past 17 weeks. I clearly remember the first day on the 23rd March. The time has flown by and I hope we have played our part in supporting those families who needed our school to remain open.

I hope you will, by now, have seen the guidance that I sent out regarding the Year 11 and Year 13 results days. I am incredibly saddened by the decision I have had to make. These are very special days for our students and staff, and I am so sorry we can’t have the students into school.

We are really looking forward to welcoming our students and our new Year 7 back in September. Our plans were sent out earlier this week and the response to them has been reassuring. The truth is that we cannot wait to have them back and for the school to breathe again because of their collective presence and energy.

I have been delighted with the amount of work that continues to pour in this week. Impressive. Earlier today you will have received a letter from Ms. Sullivan who has sent a link to some additional work for students to do if they a chance over summer. It is about our new Knowledge Organisers that have been produced for every subject. They will provide a clarity about learning for our students and have been designed to compliment our curriculum plans from September. I hope they help.

Finally, I would like to say a massive thank you to all our parents, carers and families for your support throughout this lockdown. Your feedback and kind messages have always provided a welcome lift for the staff. We could not have managed as we have without your help and commitment. I know we have made some mistakes but, on balance, I think we got most things right. I have been proud of my staff and am grateful to them for all they have done since we closed

To conclude, please have a wonderful summer, whatever you will be doing. Be safe and take care.

Simon
