Last night we learned of the death of one of our students, Mohammed Raees Kabir-Farid (Year 9) and his father whilst abroad in Turkey. Raees was a remarkable young man who was hugely popular and made a great impression on our school community and everyone who knew him. Our deepest sympathies and thoughts are with his family at this terribly sad time.
Our school community is a strong one and I have been immensely proud of the way our young people have responded with a calmness and maturity that reflects the sadness of the circumstances. Each one of our young people will remember their day at school today and it is important to us all that they have the time and space to reflect in a way that suits them best. The school has made staff available to sit with students that need time on their own and we will have professional counselling support for any who need more long-term support.
We want our students to think deeply about Raees and his many gifts. We have a book available for them to use to record their thoughts about Raees and we are encouraging those who want to leave a message to do so.
We are grateful for the support we have received today and know that students and staff appreciate it very much.
