As we approach the last week of a remarkable term…

We approach the end of a remarkable term, having gained World Class Schools status, the TeenTech award, seen our Year 7s settle in and thrive, marvelled at the amazing talent on display at Seussical the Musical, watched our Year 11s take on board the demands of their final GCSE, including attending additional learning sessions after…

Beckfoot is a world class school!

heads-blog-photo-oct-2016We have been awarded the ‘World Class Schools Quality Mark’. We are one of 44 non selective secondary state schools in England to have achieved this award, and along with two Leeds schools, the first from the North of England to do so. We are thrilled and very proud.

On 1 December, 7 of our student leadership ambassadors collected the award at the World Class Schools Award Ceremony at the world famous St Bart’s Hospital in central London. I had the privilege of being there to witness it along with Mr Darling and Ms Heaton.

To achieve this award is not easy. To be invited to apply, the school has to have the Ofsted outstanding grade. We then hosted the assessment team at the school so that they could assess at first hand the culture of the school – particularly our commitment to student leadership and inclusiveness. They liked what they saw and invited us to apply. It was then down to our students to demonstrate through a very extensive assessment process lasting several months that the school is equipping all its students with the skills and qualities needed to thrive in an ever changing world. They clearly did a fantastic job representing not only our students but all of us at Beckfoot.

It is also a tribute to an amazing world class team of teachers, support staff and parents who works so hard for the benefit of our students and understand fully what this school stands for.

The award offers us some very exciting opportunities to forge links with international schools, universities and other organisations, as well as being part of a world class network, and becoming assessors of future applicant schools. It also means that from here on in our students’ achievements have no boundaries.

To be called ‘world class’ is an honour but also a significant challenge. We need to continue to improve. Every aspect of our work has to be world class. We need to learn from other world class schools across the country who will be doing great things as well. We need also to work closely alongside our other Trust schools to set the bar as high as possible for every one of our Beckfoot Trust students.

A very special moment. The beginning of a new challenge.
